Niarla Silver Shakizka, aka 'Kizzie', is an absolute dream come true for me. For many years I have watched this mare travel around the country between homes with a true appreciation of her beauty, breeding and uniqueness. Never could I have imagined that she would one day be mine, she was simply one of those highly admired Arabians that I would always have to view from afar and dream about. But not anymore.
The day that Kizzie walked off the truck from South Australia was one I will never forget. Kizzie is such a beautiful mare, inside and out, that is a huge credit to her breeder. My sincere thanks go to Esplendour Arabians for entrusting me with the future of this remarkable mare. She is one of the Chetar Arabians horses that will never leave my side.
Kizzie's Sabino Overo markings are quite extensive. Her head markings consist of a large irregular star and wide, irregular snip connected by a thin stripe with multiple lip and chin markings, all with feathered edges. Kizzie has four white leg markings with jagged edges. Her forelegs both have high white stockings with the white extending onto the knee on the off fore and the near fore with white extensions over the knee and onto the forearm. The near fore also has disconnected leg white travelling up the rear of the forearm. All of Kizzie's leg markings are shadowed and feathered. Last, but not at all least, are Kizzie's body markings, the most obvious tell tale sign of her Sabino Overo gene is the large, highly irregular solid white marking on her near side barrel. Disconnected white markings extend onto her underside and small patches of ticking are also present elsewhere on her body. This combination of white markings is classified as a Moderate Sabino Overo expression.
Kizzie's base colour is bay, and she is heterozygous for the Extension gene so is able to produce both Chestnut and Bay based progeny. In addition, Kizzie carries at least one recessive Flaxen gene courtesy of her dam, so is able to produce Flaxen Chestnut progeny to stallions carrying the gene as well!
All in all, Kizzie's colour and her markings make for one highly striking and aesthetically appealing, not to mention extremely rare, mare. She has been proven to throw minimal Sabino Overo progeny to solid coloured stallions with minimal to no white, and definately no white pattern gene expressions.
