After many years of planning and waiting, the first Purebred Arabian Foal born at Chetar Arabians arrived on the 2nd December 2009 at 10am - And boy was she worth the wait!
Appropriately named "Chetar El Azizah", El Azizah translating to 'The Precious One' in Arabic, this beautiful filly is also the first Chetar bred foal from the gorgeous 'Niarla Silver Shakizka' and the second filly sired by Chetar Arabians Purebred Stallion 'Azzaam'. "Ella" is THE epitome of all I love about the Arabian breed - All of those breathtaking characteristics that held me in awe when I was younger, and that eventually had me base my Breeding Program on the lines that consistenty and potently produced those characteristics, are all flagrantly displayed by this confident, typey and elegant powerhouse. Ella is the entire package, and my ideal Purebred Arabian! I had some pretty high expectations for this breeding, and I am absolutely thrilled with the result! I couldn't have asked for more!!

Chetar El Azizah is the first hombred purebred Arabian born here at Chetar Arabians. She is sired by my young stallion,
AZZAAM, from one of my favourite mares,
NIARLA SILVER SHAKIZKA. Ella carries a whopping six crosses to the phenomonal supersire El Shaklan, with all crosses being through the most celebrated, and arguably his greatest, of progeny - three through Amir El Shaklan, two through SImeon Sa'ar and the final through the amazing mare Silver Glint. In addition, she carries the bloodlines of Russian greats the likes of Muscat through Muscalean and Nabeg through Nariadni courtesy of her sire, and Ruminaja Ali through his famed son Alii courtesy of her dam. Ella's pedigree reads like a who's who of the greatest and most celebrated Arabians of the past few decades. Intensely linebred to El Shaklan, Ella possesses all of the attributes that the El Shaklan descendants are widely recognized for. Tall and scopey, yet elegant and refined, with the amazing people loving temperament of both her sire and dam - Ella loves attention and is always there to greet me the moment I enter her paddock, and will always call out for me to come back when its' time to leave - Hard as that is to do already!
Chetar El Azizah carries both the Sabino Overo Gene and the Rabicano Gene, as well as the homozygous recessive genes required for Flaxen [mane & tail]. All four of her irregular, jagged edged stockings [that peak in front as apposed to behind] along with her large blaze covering both nostrils, upper and lower lips and partial chin are all indicators of the Sabino Overo gene at the intenser end of the Minimal Expression spectrum. Ella also has solid white spots beneath her tail/dock area, between the hind legs, and mane and tail frosting, all of which are indicative of the Rabicano Gene. In addition to these colour gene markers, Ella also has white ticking throughout the flank, belly, chest, barrel, throatlatch, underjaw, wither and between the fore and hind legs. These areas of white ticking are indicators of both the Sabino Overo and Rabicano Genes, and can be attributed to either and/or both. This combination of markings are extremely similar to those possessed by Ella's sire
AZZAAM, who was born and shed his first foal coat with the same characteristics. Both the Sabino Overo and Rabicano Genes that Ella carries are age progressive in many circumstances, indicating that Ella will develop more intensive white ticking, as well as mane and tail frosting, just as her sire has done - Azzaam now being at the point where he has more white in certain areas than he does chestnut, with the white ticking that was limited at birth now having developed [and continuing to develop] across throughout his entire coat to the point where he has no areas without white.
Ella will easily mature close to the 16hand mark, though I expect her to retain the type she clearly shows already - And with her flashy Sabino Overo and Rabicano gene markings, she is sure to stand out in the crowd - I am simply ecstatic with what this cross has achieved & will most definitely be repeating it!

November 2010 saw the show debut of Chetar El Azizah, the first of Azzaam's progeny to be shown. Since it had been quite a few years since I had been in the show ring, and Azizah iss the first Arabian that from beginning to end I had 100% completely bred, raised, trained, prepared and showed myself I was insanely nervous as well as extremely excited about getting out there and showing off this beautiful filly. I did rein in my expectations early on in preparing Ella though, and hoped simply to make it through the first show without any major problems.. I just wanted to "break the ice" so to speak, not only for Azizah in introducing her to her first show, but also for myself in not having been to a show in such a long time. I did expect that Azizah's snorty and fired up temperament would put on a great show in the ring, but also that she might also be hot to handle at times.
However, Azizah well and truly outdid herself!! She behaved impeccably and in the end was too much like her sire! Azzaam is so laid back and quiet in temperament that his efforts at showing are somewhat consistently lack lustre... his personality makes for a great stallion, but not for the show ring! Even though Ella took the new experience all in

her stride and didn't quite flare up as much as I had expected and even hoped for in the show ring, Chetar El Azizah still came away with a Reserve Champion Filly and a Top 5 Purebred Female accolade by the end of her 1st show!!
Over the coming months Ella and I, along with her siblings from the Chetar 2009/10 Foal Crop, will be attending quite a few more shows, so make sure you check back soon for our results - And if anyone happens to see me and one the Chetar kids at one of the shows we're attending - please feel free to say Hi!!
